With our unwelcome free time and laser focus on health, this is probably a good time to review and possibly update our Health Care Advance Directives. We should reconsider who we want to make treatment decisions in a hospital setting, in the event that we are unable to speak for ourselves. In NYS, this is best done with a Health Care Proxy. You are free to use the form in the Free Downloadable Forms section of this site. You may also wish to have a Living Will. State Laws vary with respect to Living Wills. In NYS, they are deemed to be “some evidence” of a person’s wishes.
That said, their best use is to inform family and your Health Care Proxy agent of your preferences. My own living Will, for example, states my preference to be cared for in my own home, if possible. There is also a sample Living Will in the Downloadable Forms section.
As of today, 3/26, our office is closed. I am, however, making limited house visits (looking something like a beekeeper). I am also available for phone, skype and facetime consultations. NYS Executive Order allows for remote execution of documents. Please let me know if you wish to finalize documents in this manner.
As always, please let me know if I can help anyone in any way during these unprecedented times.
